Wedding Consultants are Necessary Advocates

by 10. August 2012 06:30

I must share a conversation that I had with a bride-to -be just this morning.  She called to see if I would be available to coordinate her wedding which is less than 1 month from now. I asked why she waited this long to want to hire someone, and she went on to tell me that her venue adamantly told her mother at the first meeting,"You do not need anyone helping you; we do it all."

This particular bride, although very busy, planned the wedding , found vendors with the use of social media, and friend's experiences, but now, when it is time for all the little details, she called the venue"coordinator" and asked her to assist in something.  Guess what she was told.  "Oh, we don't do that for you." This young lady is now angry and devastated that she has no assistance at a crucial point in the planning process.

Why some venues are intimadated by planners, is the biggest question . We are available to lend a hand, give assistance, and we take care of all the what-ifs and the unexpected.  We are an asset to any venue. They take care of their venue.  Yes, they will help the bride get down the aisle, but they will not be their personal advocctae the entire day until that last gift is in the car at the end of the evening.  They will not coordinate all your vendors.  They do not know every little detail about family dynamics or how to troubleshoot problems for you, like your own planner/coordinator will do without you even knowing about it.

Please, if nothing else when starting in the planning process for the biggest day in your life, talk to a planner. Most planners do offer complimentary consultatons so you can learn what they do compared to what a venue coordinator says they will be able to do for you.

Make your planning experience a good one and have peace of mind that you will be able to enjoy your wedding day because you have someone there to be your personal advocate.

Best wishes!

Thanks to photographer Luke Eshleman for posting this a while back. I have gotten so many inquiries about Eastern Market since then, that I thought I would share Melissa and Andrew's special day.  They were a delight to work with, and they enjoyed their wedding at Eastern Market.

With the Royal Wedding just 13 days away, all the talk is about how this wedding will infulence wedding trends across the globe.  One thing is for sure, everyone will be tuned in on April 29th to view this grand event.

Bridal fashion week just took place, and the top designers were following some of the trends found in the UK as a result of what is being expected in style of the royal wedding gown. Sleeves of everykind are back again on the new line of gowns.  Some gowns are very sleek and stream-line, but most will be  huge ball gowns worn with very long trains.  Everything about wedding attire will say grandeur.

Bridal parties may consist of younger friends and family members to follow suit, and you can be sure that whatever is seen being done on April 29th, may become our next wedding trend.  Stay tuned!

A Top of the Town Wedding

by 14. September 2010 11:32

What a beautiful couple and a beautifully breathtaking view on Sept. 4, 2010 for Joe and Korrie's wedding.  The weather could not have been more perfect as the guests  enjoyed cocktails on the terrace overlooking the magnificent view from Top of the Town in Arlington.

After a beautiful church ceremony at St. Charles Borromeo church, the bridal couple explored DC with their photographer Ron Jones, of Ron Jones Photography ( You must check it out to see what wonderful images were captured.  Thanks, Ron for being a part of Joe and Korrie's day!

The music DJ'd by DJ Matt, the food catered by R&R Catering , flowers by Flowers by Terry, the delicious cake by To A Tea Events, and  the staff at Top of the Town who were present to assist.   All of you helped to make it a wedding to remember. Thank you!

Planning with Korrie and Joe for over a year was a great time, assisting them to be able to see their wedding visions come to fruition.  They are a super couple who I wish the very best for a wonderful life together!

A Must Read

by 14. September 2010 11:25

Please take a look at a wonderful article written by Catherine Calvin, Catering Sales Director at The Hilton Garden Inn, Fairfax entitled "Reasons to Hire a Wedding Coordinator". Catherine is a writer for the Examiner at  The article is in the home and living section.

I appreciate Catherine asking me to be a part of her research for this article.  I feel very strongly that couples need to consider hiring a wedding planner/coordinator, and I feel Catherine did an excellent job in educating those in the wedding market.

 Happy planning!
